The course familiarises the participants with the concepts of and social scientific approaches to multiculturalism and introduces students to recent empirical studies. The framework consists of manifold approaches to citizenship, ethnic and cultural identity, migration and governance of ethnic relations and minority affairs.
Osaamistavoitteet
Students are familiar with the European models of multiculturalism and their key issues and challenges. Students are able to analytically apply this knowledge on the basis of theories of social scientific multiculturalism research. Students recognise the differences and similarities between the approaches and are able to critically evaluate them. The course also provides students with tools to follow and analyse debates on multiculturalism as well as to express views and arguments on multiculturalism.
