Non-invasive electromagnetic brain imaging methods, electroencephalography (EEG) and magnetoencephalography (MEG), provide a unique window to human brain function. The key advantage over other imaging methods is that MEG/EEG signals reflect neural signaling directly and with excellent temporal resolution. However, estimating the spatial distribution of brain activation from MEG/EEG data requires advanced signal processing techniques and a solution to the neuromagnetic inverse problem. This course will cover the characteristics of cerebral electromagnetic fields, their measurement, and their analysis, with emphasis on physics and mathematical modeling. The lectures will encompass the generation of neuromagnetic and -electric signals, physics and instrumentation of MEG/EEG, signal processing and mathematical modeling of the acquired neuromagnetic data,  and the latest advances in estimating synchrony and causality between electromagnetic brain signals.
