Resources in Information Technology

Printed resources

Books, printed journals, theses and dissertations completed at JYU can be found through the library database JYKDOK.
  • Course books and basic book collection in information technology (B Tietotekn) are housed in Lähde-library. Depository Collection (Fennica) is housed in closed stacks. Fennica includes books published in Finland and items from the collection can be requested for use in the reading room. Information on using the depository collection.
  • Printed Graduate theses approved by the Department of Computer Science and Information Systems can be requested for reading room use. Most theses since 2005 have been made available in the Jyväskylä University Digital Archive JYX.

Electronic resources

You can access all the electronic resources through the library database JYKDOK. If you are using electronic resources on a computer connected to the Jyväskylä University network, you have access rights to all the resources. From outside the network please login using the same username and password as when you log into your university email. More info about remote access.

Electronic journals

Electronic full text journals available at Jyväskylä University can be accessed via JYKDOK. Search with the name of the journal and look at "Available online" to see which volumes are available.

If you need an article that is not available at Jyväskylä University in either electronic or printed form, you can usually get it through interlibrary loan. Information about interlibrary loans.

All electronic books can be accessed via JYKDOK.

If you want to browse e-book collections, you can also access the collections through JYKDOK. Important e-book collections include:

  • IEEE Xplore - has a collection of e-books from Wiley-IEEE Press.
  • Ebook Central - full-text books in multiple academic and general interest subject areas.
  • Ebsco eBook Collection - full-text books in multiple academic and general interest subject areas.
  • Lecture Notes in Computer Science - full-text access to publication series 'Lecture Notes in Computer Science'. - Mainly conference publications.

Reference Books

Dictionaries, Glossaries

  • MOT Dictionaries – a variety of high-quality dictionaries through one user interface. MOT features comprehensive general dictionaries, large dictionaries for technical and commercial terms, as well as a selection of specialist dictionaries.
  • Oxford English Dictionary
  • Tepa – a term bank compiled and maintained by the Finnish Terminology Centre TSK. It contains special language terms and their definitions which are displayed as multilingual terminological entries.
  • PressReader - provides access to international newspapers and magazines. Access to up to 90 days of back issues for each title.

Managing references - Zotero

  • Zotero is a bibliography and database manager that allows users to create their own personal database by uploading pdf-files or importing references from text files or online databases. The references can be used in writing papers and automatically formatting the bibliography for manuscripts.
